For the past twenty-two, twenty-three years, I working in sales and marketing. And, when you start working, you just go in the flow and especially in the pharmaceutical industry. You just start and then you do your education and you just develop. It’s going very fast and without knowing you are where you are now at this moment. And due to some situations with the company, it’s time for me really to think about my future and to think about what I really like to do. And, what I really noticed was that if you’re talking about energy levels, where do you get your energy from, that I really got my energy from doing the compliance and a lot of people think it’s very strange. Because if you are doing sales and marketing, you really dislike everything about compliance, about legislation. So, it was very strange combination. But, for me, it was a perfect combination because to have an influence on the business but also on how to do the business within the guidelines of the legislation really satisfied me.
Last year, end of last year, the vice-president from the company came to the Netherlands wanting to see the person who was doing the sales and marketing and the compliance in the Netherlands. Because the Netherlands is really seen as a difficult country regarding legislation and they really wanted to meet the person who was doing such a good job in the compliance in the business. So, after five minutes talking to me, he offered me a job on European level to be his right hand for the introduction of procedures in the European countries. And, it gave me such a boost, such energy that I really thought this is what I want to do. This is really how I can help with the business.
Just don’t do everything on rational. I am a very rational focus person. Don’t do everything on rational basis. Take time to me to look into your emotional part and talk to people who really know you. Not your parents, but peers. So, just talk to people. But, not to the business people. But, to people outside the business and who don’t know the business, but who really know the sense of who I am and explain to me about this part, “You are becoming really happy. Your face changes, your energy level changes. So why not go for it?”
But, that’s also, of course, the difficult thing because you have to really convince yourself and you have to feel it. If you don’t feel it, you don’t have to do it. But, I really feel in myself that this is the journey I have to go and that I will succeed in this journey. The only thing is, I don’t know how long it takes.
So, you also have to really think about it in your home situation, of course. Because also your home situation is used to salary and income and a nice car, etc. that belongs to the sales and marketing positions. So, everybody is looking a little bit strange. But, at the end, I think this is what makes me happy.
